Here are some of the words of Sen. Robert Byrd delivered on the Senate Floor, Wednesday, May 21, 2003:
"Truth has a way of asserting itself despite all attempts to obscure it. Distortion only serves to derail it for a time. No matter to what lengths we humans may go to obfuscate facts or delude our fellows, truth has a way of squeezing out through the cracks, eventually.... Regarding the situation in Iraq, it appears to this Senator that the American people may have been lured into accepting the unprovoked invasion of a sovereign nation, in violation of long-standing International law, under false premises."

Let's hope Byrd's optimism that truth will "assert itself" even more in the months approaching the next election comes to pass. My father-in-law used to say, "God helps those who help themselves." I think a legitimate revision is "Truth helps those who help expose it." Support Byrd, Truthout.org, and alternative sources of news that attempt to unmask the machinery of information control and spin that marks this administration from the top down.
